Woven label

Definition

A label made by weaving text and a logo directly into fabric with colored threads on a loom, then cutting and folding it to sew into a garment.

Woven labels are the durable, retail-standard way to brand a neck, side seam or hem. Because the design is built from thread rather than printed on top, it does not fade or wash off. Fine weaves such as damask hold small text and detail; satin and taffeta weaves feel different and suit different looks.

Folds and cuts change how a label sits: end-fold, center-fold, loop and straight-cut with a sealed edge are all common. Detail is limited by thread thickness, so logos sometimes need simplifying. Sewing a label into the neck adds a finishing step, and some wearers find stiff labels scratchy, which is why printed neck labels are a popular alternative.

Woven labels are made in batches with their own minimums and lead times, so order them early in your schedule. Decide whether care and content details go on the main label or a separate one. See private label finishing.
