Custom Merch for Skate and Surf Shops
Merch Mob makes skate and surf shop merch: house-brand tees, hoodies, hats and beanies for the rack, team rider gear, artist and shaper collabs, and all-over printed shorts. We screen print, embroider and sublimate, add your neck labels and hang tags, and ship to the shop or fulfill web orders. Quotes come back within 24 hours.

What good looks like.
A core skate or surf shop's own logo is often one of the best-known things it sells. The house-brand tee or hoodie is what locals wear to show where they skate or surf, what visitors take home as a souvenir, and a product whose margin the shop sets itself, unlike hard goods priced against online sellers. It also signals that the shop is part of the scene, not just a retailer.
Good shop merch looks like it belongs next to the brands on the wall. That means retail-grade blanks, your own neck label and hang tag, prints that feel right for the culture (soft water-based or crisp spot-color plastisol), and limited collabs with local artists, shapers and team riders that give regulars a reason to come back. A tight, well-made line does more for a shop than a wide one.
What skate and surf shops order, and why.
- 01
House-brand tees
The shop logo on a quality tee in a few colorways, restocked all year. It has to hold its own on the rack next to the established brands the shop carries.
- 02
Hoodies and crewnecks
Fleece for cold dawn-patrol sessions, night skating and layering after a surf, and usually the highest-priced house item on the rack.
- 03
Hats and beanies
Embroidered caps, five-panels and beanies with the shop logo, one-size items that sell to locals and visitors alike and sit well at the register.
- 04
Artist and shaper collabs
A limited run with a local artist, photographer or surfboard shaper, numbered or one-and-done, that gives regulars a reason to show up on release day.
- 05
Team rider gear
Shirts and hoodies for the shop team, worn in videos, at contests and on social, which keeps the logo in front of the local scene.
- 06
Event and contest shirts
Shirts for a shop contest, a video premiere, Go Skateboarding Day or a beach cleanup, printed as short runs and dated to the day.
How we make it
Screen Printing
Spot-color logos and illustrated art are screen printing's home ground. Water-based and discharge give a soft, worn-in hand on cotton, and jumbo back prints suit the culture.
MethodEmbroidery
Caps and beanies are rack staples, embroidered flat or in 3D puff on structured fronts, with digitizing included and up to 15 thread colors.
MethodAll-Over Print
Cut-panel sublimation for patterned shorts, tees and hoodies, where a print runs edge to edge and over the seams without white gaps at the stitching.
MethodPrivate Label
Your neck label, woven label and hang tags replace the blank maker's branding, so the house line reads as a real brand hanging next to the ones you stock.
- 01
Heavyweight and boxy tees
A thicker cotton tee in a relaxed or boxy fit suits skate style and gives a big back print a firm, flat surface.
- 02
Soft midweight tees
Ring-spun cotton that feels broken-in from day one, suited to surf-shop styles and soft water-based prints.
- 03
Hoodies and zip hoodies
Midweight fleece for layering after a session. On zip hoodies, plan the front print around the zipper or keep it to a left chest.
- 04
Caps and five-panels
Five-panels, dad hats and trucker caps take an embroidered shop logo, and structured fronts can carry 3D puff.
- 05
Sublimated shorts
All-over printed polyester shorts give the house brand a summer piece with a pattern no blank offers.
- A shop's core order is often a house logo tee in a few colors, a hoodie and a cap, restocked as sizes sell through.
- Collabs usually run as small, one-time batches with their own art and sometimes their own label or hang tag, released on a set date.
- Shops with a team often add rider shirts and hoodies to the same order as the house line, sharing setup where the art repeats.
- Can you put our own label in the neck of our house-brand shirts?
- Can we do a small collab run with a local artist?
- Can you make all-over printed shorts?
- Which blank works best for a skate or surf house brand?
- Can you ship web orders for our shop?
When to order, by region.
- Desert Southwest. Summer heat pushes skate sessions to early mornings and nights, and the mild winter is prime skating weather. Light tees carry most of the year, and a hoodie fits desert winter evenings and holiday gifting.
- California. Surf and skate run year-round, with a summer visitor peak at beach shops. Cold water and foggy coastal mornings keep hoodies relevant in every month, and the holidays are the main gift window.
- Texas and Oklahoma. Long, hot summers push skate sessions to evenings and indoor parks, while coastal surf shops peak in summer and over spring break. Hoodies fit the short winter and the holiday gift season.
- Florida, the Gulf Coast and the Deep South. Beach shops peak with spring break and summer visitors, and tropical swells bring local surfers out in late summer and fall. Light tees, tanks and caps lead the rack, and fleece is a short winter item.
- Upper South and Mid-Atlantic. Coastal surf shops peak in summer, with fall hurricane swells drawing locals, while inland skate shops run spring through fall. Hoodies and beanies earn rack space from October.
- Mountain West. Many board shops sell snowboards in winter and skateboards in summer, so house-brand hoodies and beanies lead from fall through spring, and tees take over for the skate season.
- Pacific Northwest. Cold-water surf calls for hoodies and beanies all year, and the wet season pushes skaters into covered and indoor parks. Fleece is a year-round house item here, with tees for the dry summer.
- Midwest and Plains. Skate season runs from spring to fall, with indoor parks and Great Lakes surfing for the dedicated through winter. Order hoodies and beanies for autumn, and lead with tees and caps from May.
- Northeast. Summer is the beach shop's season, while dedicated surfers paddle out through fall and winter swells in thick wetsuits. Hoodies and beanies carry the rack from September through spring.
- Hawaii. Big winter swells on north-facing shores draw surfers and contests from November to February, and visitors buy shop tees all year. Light tees, tanks and caps carry the rack.
- Alaska. Outdoor skate season is short and mostly summer, so indoor parks and hoodies carry the rest of the year. Beanies and fleece are the house items that suit the climate.

Merch for skate and surf shops: questions
How do we make our shop's house brand look like a real brand?
Treat it like the brands on your wall. Pick a retail-grade blank, replace the manufacturer's tag with your own neck label, add a woven label or hang tag, and choose an ink that suits the garment, such as discharge or water-based on cotton for a soft, worn-in feel. Fold and bag the stock so it arrives ready for the rack.
What is the minimum for skate or surf shop merch?
DTG has none. For screen printing, embroidery and sublimation, the minimum depends on the method, colors, print locations and the garment, and the quote spells it out within 24 hours alongside line-item pricing and a committed timeline. A tight line in deeper quantities keeps the cost per piece lower than many designs in small runs.
How do artist collabs work for a shop?
Agree terms with the artist first, in writing: who owns the art, how they are paid or credited, and how many pieces will be made. Then send their files for review. Illustrated art often separates into spot colors for screen printing, or runs as DTG if it is full color. A collab label or hang tag makes the release feel special.
Can you print all-over designs on shorts?
Yes. Cut-panel sublimation prints the pattern onto polyester fabric panels before the shorts are sewn, so the design runs edge to edge and across the seams. It needs white or light polyester as the base, and artwork is laid out on a template for each size.
When should we order for summer season?
Early enough to have stock on the rack before the first warm weekend. Timing depends on the method, blank stock, quantity and finishing such as labels and hang tags, and the quote commits to a timeline within 24 hours. Order fleece for fall before summer ends, since popular blank colors get tighter as the season turns.
Can you ship orders from our shop's web store?
Yes. We pick, pack and ship Shopify and direct-to-consumer orders from our So Cal facility with tracking, and manage the house-brand inventory between restocks. Stock for the physical shop can ship in bulk at the same time, folded and bagged by size.
