Blanks by Thirteen keeps a short catalog and builds all of it from one kind of fiber. Every core piece is 100% combed cotton that the brand describes as custom milled in California, and the product pages carry a made in USA line. The range is organized into the Perfect basics, a T-shirt, hoodie, crewneck, sweatpant, baby tee and ribbed tank, and Blanks Limited, a rotating set of dyed and washed versions. Sizing runs S to XXL on most pieces and XS to XXL on the baby tee.
The Perfect line
The Perfect T-Shirt is 220 GSM, about 6.5 oz/yd² by conversion, which sits at the heavy end of midweight. It is pre-shrunk and cut so that your usual size wears relaxed. The Perfect Hoodie, Perfect Crewneck and Perfect Sweatpant share a 450 GSM fleece, roughly 13.3 oz/yd², also pre-shrunk. The tops are slightly oversized with dropped shoulders, and the brand suggests your usual size for that roomy look or a size down for a truer fit. The sweatpant is a loose straight leg with three pockets and an adjustable drawstring, so the hoodie and pants work as a matching set.
The Perfect Baby T is the fitted option: combed cotton, garment dyed, and true to size. The brand does not publish a weight for it.
Blanks Limited
The Limited pieces start from the same bodies and add a finish. Some are dyed black and hand-sprayed to look sun-faded, some are sewn inside out (the reverse hoodies), and the tees come in oil-washed, mineral-dyed and pigment-washed versions. Each is treated by hand, so no two garments are quite the same. That is the appeal for a label selling a vintage look, and it is also the main thing to plan around when decorating. Garment-dyed blanks explained covers why washed and dyed pieces vary.
How the blanks decorate
All-cotton combed jersey and fleece are about as straightforward as blanks get. Combed yarn has the short fibers removed, so the surface is smooth and holds fine detail from screen printing and DTG. With no polyester in the fabric, dye bleeding into light inks during curing is not a concern on the Perfect pieces, and water-based or discharge inks can give a soft hand, provided a test shows the dye in that color releases cleanly.
The Limited pieces need more caution:
- Pigment, mineral and oil-washed colors may not discharge well, since pigment dyes resist discharge agents. Plan on plastisol or water-based ink with an underbase, and test first.
- Hand-faded garments differ piece to piece, so an ink color approved on one may look slightly different on the next. Approve the look on several pieces, not one.
- Reverse hoodies are sewn inside out, so the outer surface is what would normally be the inside of the fleece. That face is usually softer and less even than a knit face, which favors bold, simple art; print a sample first.
For embroidery, the 450 GSM fleece is a stable base for dense logos and 3D puff. The 220 GSM tee carries a small chest logo well with a backing; very dense fills on any tee are best avoided.
If you add your own label, keep the made in USA information accurate on the new label. Private label finishing covers what a replacement label needs to say.
