AS Colour started in New Zealand in 2005 and now sells blank apparel internationally, including through a US site that ships across the United States and Canada. The brand describes its customers as creators and makers, and its catalog reflects that: tees in several weights and cuts, fleece, women's and kids' styles, headwear and bags. Every product page carries a printing note, and for the core styles that note says the garment suits screen printing, DTG and embroidery.
The tee ladder
Most people meet AS Colour through three tees that share a construction and step up in weight. All are side seamed with shoulder-to-shoulder tape and double-needle hems, and all are preshrunk.
| Style | Weight | Yarn | Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Staple Tee 5001 | 5.3 oz | 28-singles combed cotton | Regular |
| Classic Tee 5026 | 6.5 oz | 22-singles combed cotton | Regular |
| Heavy Tee 5080 | 8.2 oz | 26-doubles carded cotton | Relaxed, wide neck rib |
A higher singles number means a finer yarn, so the Staple has the smoothest surface and the Heavy Tee the most texture and body. The Heavy Tee's doubled yarn is part of why it feels dense rather than just thick. Heavyweight vs midweight vs lightweight T-shirts places these weights on the wider scale, and the AS Colour Staple Tee page has the full Staple spec sheet.
The faded line adds a washed finish. The Heavy Faded Tee 5082 is 7.1 oz carded cotton in 16 singles, garment dyed, with dropped shoulders, and the Staple Faded Tee 5065 puts the same treatment on a 5.3 oz body.
Heathers without polyester
AS Colour builds its heather and marle colors with viscose instead of polyester: the Staple and Classic heathers are listed at 15% viscose. Viscose is a cellulose fiber, like cotton, so these colors avoid the polyester dye bleed known as dye migration. They still print a touch differently from the solid colors, so run a test before a big order on a heather.
How the tees decorate
On the all-cotton solids, plastisol, water-based ink and DTG all have a natural base. The combed yarn of the Staple and Classic gives a smooth, tight surface that holds halftones and fine lines; the carded, doubled yarn of the Heavy Tee is a little more textured but very stable under a squeegee. Discharge ink depends on the dye in each color, so treat every new color as a test.
The faded tees need more care. AS Colour itself recommends a blocker when printing any faded or stone-washed garment, because washed dyes can migrate into ink during curing. Expect some shade variation between batches too, as with any garment-dyed blank.
For embroidery, the 6.5 and 8.2 oz tees hold a chest logo with less puckering than a 5.3 oz shirt, though a stable backing is needed on any jersey.
Hoods
The fleece follows the same pattern of weight and fit choices. The Stencil Hood 5102 is a regular-fit 10.3 oz fleece of 80% cotton and 20% recycled polyester with an anti-pill finish, a lined hood and a drawcord. The Relax Hood 5161 uses a similar 80/20 fleece at 9.4 oz with a cotton face, a drop shoulder and no drawcord. The Made Hood 5151 is the heavy option: 14.7 oz of 100% cotton French terry, relaxed with a drop shoulder and no drawcord. The blended hoods carry some migration risk with light inks; the all-cotton Made Hood does not, and suits discharge testing.
