Otto Cap is a wholesale headwear supplier that says it offers business-to-business service only. Its catalog is wide, with foam and twill truckers, baseball caps from low to pro profile, dad hats, snapbacks, a performance line, beanies and visors, and the product pages read like spec sheets, listing cap style, structure, material content, visor, closure and sweatband for each model. Otto runs its own domestic and overseas decoration services as well, and sells the same caps blank.
The foam trucker
The 39-165 is the cap most people picture when they search for an Otto trucker. It is a five-panel, high-crown hat whose front is a single lined foam panel with no center seam, paired with a polyester mesh back, a slightly curved visor trimmed with a slim 2 mm rope, a plastic snap and a terry cloth sweatband. Otto lists the material content as 100% polyester.
That tall, flat front is why foam truckers are a merch staple. A one-piece panel gives screen printing and heat transfers an uninterrupted surface, and white fronts can take sublimation. Printers keep curing heat in check, because foam and polyester do not tolerate much of it, and low-cure plastisol or DTF transfers are common choices.
Embroidery is where advice differs. Otto states that the foam on this cap is formulated for embroidery and heat transfers, and outlines, lettering and lighter logos do sew cleanly. Large, dense fills are the risk: every needle strike punches the foam, and thousands close together can weaken it. Keep the design open, use a backing suited to the cap, and ask for a test sew-out. A patch is the practical way to get a stitched look with a heavy logo. Foam trucker hats explained covers the trade-offs in detail.
Structured twill truckers
The 83-473 and 112-1 are six-panel trucker hats with a cotton/polyester twill front stiffened by full buckram, a polyester mesh back and a plastic snap. The difference is height:
| Style | Profile | Front | Sweatband |
|---|---|---|---|
| 83-473 | Low | 65/35 poly/cotton twill, full buckram | Thinner value sweatband |
| 112-1 | Mid | 65/35 poly/cotton, full buckram | Standard cotton twill |
A structured twill front is the classic base for embroidery and 3D puff. The buckram behind the front panels holds the shape while the machine stitches, so dense satin columns and puff foam stay crisp. Six-panel fronts have a center seam, so a cap-specific digitized file is needed; embroidery digitizing explains why cap files differ from flat ones. A low profile front is shorter, which limits logo height; a mid profile gives more room. Cap profiles and fits compares the shapes.
Dad hats
The 18-772 is a low-profile, unstructured six-panel cap in garment-washed cotton, with a pre-curved visor and an antique brass buckle. Without buckram, the crown folds and gives, which is the relaxed look buyers want. It also changes decoration: flat embroidery sits well, but 3D puff loses its height on a soft front, so keep puff small or choose a structured cap for it. The washing gives a worn-in color that can vary slightly between batches. Custom hat decoration covers patches and other options.
Choosing an Otto style
- A retro trucker for printed or transfer art: the 39-165 foam trucker.
- An embroidered logo on a structured trucker that sits low: the 83-473.
- More front height for embroidery or puff: the 112-1.
- A soft, washed cap for simple embroidered marks: the 18-772.
