Popular Trucker Hat Styles Compared: Richardson 112, Yupoong 6006, Otto

Short answer

The Richardson 112 is a six-panel, mid profile trucker with a cotton-polyester twill front and a precurved bill. The Yupoong 6006 is a five-panel, high profile trucker with a 4-inch crown and a flat bill. Otto Cap and Nissun Cap add twill and foam-front truckers, including youth sizes. No style is best for everyone: compare crown height, panels, structure, bill, closure and sizes against your logo and wearers.

What separates one trucker from another

Every trucker has a solid front and mesh behind it. Everything else varies, and eight specs account for nearly all of the difference you feel when you put two styles on: crown height, panel count, structure, front fabric, bill shape, closure, size options and colorways.

Profile words are the least reliable of these. Each maker decides what "mid" or "high" means, so two caps with the same label can sit differently. When a maker publishes crown height in inches, use that number. Panel count tells you whether a seam runs down the middle of the logo, and structure tells you whether the front will hold its shape and support raised embroidery. Cap profiles and fits explains each of these terms; this guide applies them to real style numbers from four makers: Richardson, Yupoong (sold under its Flexfit brand as YP Classics), Otto Cap and Nissun Cap.

Specs below are as each maker lists them on its own product pages, checked on 2026-10-04. "Not stated" means the maker's page did not give that detail.

On several Yupoong pages the maker notes that the front fabric is changing from a 65/35 to a 74/26 polyester/cotton blend and that mixed stock may ship during the changeover. Otto's pages carry similar running-change notes about button and eyelet colors. If you are matching an earlier order exactly, ask which version you will receive.

A sandwich bill has a thin contrasting layer between the top and underside, which shows as a colored stripe along the edge. Foam trucker hats explains how foam fronts are built and why they favor printing and transfers over dense embroidery.

Richardson 112

The 112 is the classic baseball silhouette with a mesh back: six panels, a mid crown and a precurved bill. Its front is a cotton-rich twill with buckram behind it, and Richardson lists a padded cotton sweatband. In practice that firm twill gives embroidery a solid base for flat logos and 3D puff, while the center seam means designs are centered on it and prints that cross it are a compromise.

It has the most size options of any style in these tables, from youth to extra-large, though the outer sizes come in fewer colors. It is also a family rather than a single cap: Richardson's 112 collection includes five-panel, printed, recycled, lined and stretch-adjustable (R-Flex) versions, which lets a brand keep the same shape across very different looks. Its colorway list is very long, with solids, splits and three-color combinations. Full details sit on the Richardson 112 style page.

Yupoong 6006

The 6006 is the tall, flat-billed trucker: five panels, a high 4-inch crown, hard buckram and a flat bill with eight rows of stitching and a matching underside. The one-piece front has no seam, so a wide wordmark, a print or a large patch can sit dead center on a clean surface.

The taller crown gives more front height for a logo than the mid and low styles here, and it gives the cap a bolder, more upright look. The flip side is fit: on smaller heads a 4-inch crown can look big, and it comes in one adjustable size. The Yupoong 6006 style page has the full spec rundown.

Otto Cap truckers

Otto's range splits cleanly into foam fronts and twill fronts, and its product pages are unusually complete: each lists crown height, cap size range, bill style, closure, sweatband type and whether the front is buckram-backed or foam with a lining.

  • Foam fronts in two heights. The 39-165 and the flat-billed 132-1037 have a 4-inch crown; the 32-467 drops to 3.4 inches for a lower foam trucker. All three use a lined foam front, and the 39-165 and 32-467 add a slim rope above the bill. Otto describes its foam as formulated for embroidery and heat transfers.
  • Twill fronts in low and mid. The 83-473 is a low profile, six-panel trucker with a polyester-cotton twill front and full buckram. The 112-2 is a mid profile version in Otto's Comfy Fit line, which adds stretch to the fabric and sweatband, a soft stretch mesh back and a flexible TPU snap that Otto pitches at larger heads.
  • Young adult sizes. Otto lists a young adult size, for hat sizes 6 to 7 1/8, on styles such as the 39-165 and 83-473, with a slightly lower crown on the 39-165. That is useful for family events, youth teams and smaller heads.

The Otto Cap brand page gives an overview of the maker and its wider range.

Nissun Cap truckers

Nissun lists fewer measurements per style than Otto or Yupoong: its pages give the front material, panel count, backing and closure, but not crown heights. The range includes:

  • Twill mesh truckers. The TGCM pairs a cotton twill five-panel front with fused buckram, a mesh back and a plastic snap. The TMNB is a similar cotton twill mesh cap without a braid across the front, closed with a fabric strap and hook-and-loop.
  • Foam truckers. The SSC Summer Mesh Cap has a poly-foam front and mesh back, the SPC and SCC are two-tone versions, the 5FBC switches to a flat bill, and the 5PMS adds a sandwich bill. Nissun also lists neon (NSC) and luminescent (LUMI) foam-front caps.
  • Youth foam truckers. The SSCY, SPCY and NSCY are youth versions of its foam caps, which matters when a run has to cover children as well as adults.

Because crown heights are not published, order a sample of any Nissun style you are considering and compare it with a cap you know. The Nissun Cap brand page covers the maker in more detail.

Lower, softer and retro variations

  • Curved-bill mid profile: Yupoong's 6606 (six-panel) and 6506 (five-panel) share a 3 1/2-inch crown and a Permacurv bill, Flexfit's shape-holding visor. Choose the 6506 when you want the one-piece front; Yupoong itself pitches it for screen printing.
  • Low profile: Richardson's 115, Yupoong's 6601 and Otto's 83-473 sit closer to the head than the 112 or 6006 while staying structured. They suit smaller heads and a cleaner, less tall look, and they push logos to be wider rather than taller.
  • Unstructured and washed: Richardson's 111 has a garment-washed cotton front with no stiffener, so it looks broken in from the start. It takes flat embroidery and sewn patches; tall puff and dense fills do not suit it.
  • High six-panel: Yupoong's 6609 pairs a high 3 3/4-inch crown with six panels and a flat bill, for a tall shape with a seam down the front.

How to compare any trucker style

  1. Start from the maker's own page. Reseller listings lag behind changes such as Yupoong's fabric update. Note the date you checked.
  2. Find the crown height in inches. If the maker only gives a profile word, compare against a cap you already know on a real head.
  3. Count the panels. Five panels means a one-piece front; six means a center seam through the logo area.
  4. Check the structure. Hard buckram, light structure, unstructured or foam: this decides the shape on the head and how well raised or dense embroidery holds up.
  5. Look at the bill. Flat, precurved, slightly curved, shape-holding or sandwich, plus the underside color and the stitching rows if you are matching an older cap.
  6. Read the size list. One adjustable size, a youth or young adult size, several adjustable sizes, or fitted sizes that need a size run.
  7. Confirm colorways and stock. A color can exist in the catalog yet be short in your sizes; blank colors, stock and sold-out risk explains how to plan around that.
  8. Match it to the decoration. Ask your decorator how your logo will sit on this front, and see hat decoration options for the methods.
  9. Wear a sample for a day. Fit, comfort and how the bill sits are faster to judge on your head than on a spec sheet.

Choosing without a ranking

There is no single best trucker hat, only the best match for a logo and a crowd. A few rules cover most decisions:

  • Embroidered logo, broad audience: a structured six-panel mid profile with several sizes, such as the 112, keeps the classic shape and fits the widest range of heads.
  • Wide wordmark, print or big patch: a five-panel front, such as the 6006, 6506 or Nissun's TGCM, gives a front with no seam.
  • Smaller heads or a lower look: a structured low profile, such as the 115, 6601 or 83-473.
  • Adults and kids in one run: a style with a youth or young adult version, such as the 112, the 39-165 or Nissun's SSC and SSCY.
  • Vintage, broken-in feel: an unstructured, garment-washed front like the 111, with flat embroidery or a sewn patch.
  • Loud, retro, printed: a foam front like the 113, 39-165, 132-1037 or SSC.

If the order spans several of these needs, it is normal to run two styles with the same artwork, adjusted for each front. Have the logo digitized separately for each style if the fronts differ much in height or seam layout.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the difference between the Richardson 112 and the Yupoong 6006?

The 112 has six panels, so its twill front has a center seam, a mid profile crown and a precurved bill. The 6006 has five panels, so its front is one piece, with a taller high profile crown and a flat bill. The 112 also comes in more sizes, while the 6006 is a single adjustable size.

Which trucker hats have a front with no center seam?

Five-panel truckers have a one-piece front. Among the styles compared here, that includes the Yupoong 6006 and 6506, the Richardson 113, the Otto 39-165, 32-467 and 132-1037, Nissun's twill mesh and foam truckers, and the five-panel versions in Richardson's 112 family.

Are trucker hats one size fits all?

Most are adjustable snapbacks sold in one adult size, which Yupoong and Otto both list as roughly hat sizes 6 1/2 or 6 5/8 up to 7 5/8. Some styles add sizes: Richardson lists the 112 from youth to extra-large, and Otto and Nissun offer young adult or youth versions of several truckers.

Why do two mid profile trucker hats fit differently?

Profile labels are each maker's own, and crown height is only one measurement. The curve of the crown, the stiffness of the buckram, the panel count, the bill shape and the sweatband all change how a cap sits. Comparing published crown heights in inches and trying samples on is the reliable test.

What is an Otto trucker hat?

Otto Cap is a wholesale headwear maker whose trucker range covers foam-front caps such as the 39-165 and 32-467 and twill-front caps such as the 83-473. Its product pages publish crown heights, size ranges and closure types, which makes its styles straightforward to compare with other makers' truckers.

Is Yupoong the same as Flexfit?

Yupoong is the company behind the Flexfit brand. Its classic snapback and trucker styles, including the 6006, are sold as YP Classics and listed on the Flexfit website, which is where their current specs are published.
